It was 1986 when Mick Brunt first saw Bitter Fingers; it was parked outside the Woodbourne Hotel in Sheffield where his scooter club met. At that time it was owned by Paul Hesse and even though ‘shopping’ always came into Mick’s mind every time he thought of Vegas, he was intrigued by the scooter’s stylishly different look and there was something that attracted him to it, which he couldn’t put his finger on.
The original paint and artwork on the scooter’s legshields had been developed by one of its previous owners, Paul Carter from Wakefield, who explained: “I was inspired by the artwork in the Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy’s accompanying album booklet and I liked the song Bitter Fingers in particular. Maca and Dave Barnett of DownTown Customs completed the paint and artwork respectively. It was the first scooter on which Dave had attempted artwork such as this and when I first showed it in the late 70s at a custom show in Doncaster it won best mural.”
