Reporters’ star ratings for main events and undercards are based on in-ring entertainment, competitiveness and whether overall expectation was met

IN THE week leading up Natasha Jonas’ IBF welterweight title defence against Mikaela Mayer at Liverpool’s M&S Arena, there was some debate as to whether it would maintain the phenomenal upward momentum women’s boxing has experienced over the past decade.

Even locally, and as Jonas herself alluded to after the final bell when thanking her legion of fans for (just about) seeing her over the line, there had been talk of potentially low ticket sales for a show held on a cold and wet January evening in the midst of a cost of living crisis, and featuring just three scousers - and all screened on TV.
