Current affairs

WHEN it comes to keeping your finger on the pulse within the equine industry, I was delighted to attend the “current affairs” afternoon at the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) Congress, highlighting the ever-evolving landscape of the profession.

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) under care guidance came into effect from 1 September 2023. The guidance is uniform across all species, from aquaculture to alpacas, so careful interpretation is required for each.

Linda Belton spoke about the why, the what and the how of under care guidance, from an equine vet perspective. The previous guidance was no longer fit for purpose, so the idea of the under care guidance review was to continue with good regulation, while allowing the profession to evolve.
