Floating line knots

Is floating line any good for knots? I follow various Med sailing groups on Facebook, and I’ve noticed a marked increase of late in the number of tenders going adrift.

I then went on a charter with the family, and our own tender came loose at one point in a gust while at anchor, something that’s never happened to me before in over 50 years. The painter on the dinghy was a floating line, which I’ve not ever had before. We couldn’t recall how the painter had been secured, but believe it was with a clove hitch. Once we’d recovered the tender, I played around a bit with the line to see how secure various knots were, and it did indeed seem that it was alarmingly prone
