Ram’s Big Horn arrives

Big V8 pickup range expands

Ram Trucks’ Big Horn nameplate has arrived in New Zealand in the form of the Ram 1500 Big Horn.

With the 1500 DS in run-out mode at $99,990, the new Big Horn is set to be the starting point to RAM ownership. All 1500 models are now built on the DT platform.

“The Big Horn, with its impressive cargo space, class-leading 4.5-tonne braked towing and legendary 5.7-litre V8 Hemi, broadens our product offering of Ram Trucks in NZ even more. It’s a true workhorse and packed with practical tech and useful features. It’s perfect for the job site during the week and dirt-biking or family adventuring during the weekend”. said Todd Groves, RAM Trucks NZ general sales manager.

Big Horn uses a 5.7-litre V8 Hemi engine delivering 291kW and 556Nm through a eight-speed gearbox. This powertrain features eTorque technology creating a mild hybrid system which assists the engine’s fuel-saving cylinder deactivation.

Official fuel consumption is 12.2L/100km.

The V8 engine makes the Ram’s best-inclass 4500kg towing abilities possible.

The double cab’s wellside cargo area is two metres long.

Bighorn has a bedliner, multiple tie-down points, bed step, 18″ aluminium alloy wheels and a useful payload of 878kg.

Inside, robust Diesel Grey cloth seats, 60/40 stadium folding rear bench, trailer sway control function and hill-start assist double-down on the practicality equation, while a full suite of airbags help keep occupants safe.

NZ4WD of the year

Celebrating the best and brightest

The future is bright, if annual awards are any indication. At the end of 2023, editor Mark Baker editor Sean Wilmott went on a whirlwind tour of the automotive industry to present plaques to the magazine’s category and outright award winners.
