Winter afternoon

WHILE I MAY BE BETTER KNOWN for my sweeping seascapes of the West Coast of Scotland and the islands of the Outer Hebrides, I also love to paint urban scenes in towns and cities, especially those that feature elegant architecture. My favourite urban views incorporate elements of the natural world in the form of trees and parkland.

Nature exists in harmony with architecture.

My inspiration for Winter Afternoon, Glasgow, derived from a sketching trip to Pollokshields on the south side of the city. Here, we find streets of late Victorian tenements, intersected with mature trees and garden shrubs.

On this winter afternoon, the normally busy street is hushed and tranquil fromsnowfall and the cars appear to be sleeping under their snowy blankets.
