TONY’S TOP TIPS

• Ensure your paper is of sufficient weight not to cockle if you have not stretched it first. With Inktense you do not need to stretch first as long as you are using at least 200lb (425gsm) paper.

• Clean your brush by wiping off excess when switching from one colour to another. You can do this on any piece of rag or paper.

• If planning a full day’s outdoor painting with waterbrushes, a small bottle of water to top up the brushes is recommended.

For the following demonstration I made the short drive from my Wadebridge studio to the dramatic Trevose headland, which is arguably the most prominent headland on the north Cornish coast. Located beside the Atlantic, with its craggy, slate, weather-worn cliffs and a lighthouse warning of their danger, this area is now owned by the National Trust.
