THE iconic totem signs introduced by the newly-formed BR in February 1948 were for several decades a much-appreciated and widespread source of information at stations throughout the country, from Thurso to Penzance and Ipswich to Aberystwyth.
However, they were a comparatively rare feature at the termini of one surprising location: London.
