Britain's best children's authors call for more funding to boost children's reading

Every children’s laureate of the last 25 years on Wednesday called on politicians for greater funding for children’s reading, as research suggests less than half of children are read a bedtime story.
In an unprecedented open letter, 12 children’s laureates led by War Horse author Michael Morpurgo, urged Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer to invest in books and reading for children under the age of seven.
Authors including Malorie Blackman, who have supported the Evening Standard’s literacy campaign , signed the letter.
