Why did Apple surrender on RCS?

When it comes to upgrading a phone, it’s not always easy to switch camps. Sure, the new Samsung or Google Pixel may be tempting, but if you’re already an iPhone owner, sticking with Apple is the path of least resistance.

That’s not only because Apple makes migration between its own devices easier, but because it has worked hard over the years to lock users into its ecosystem. For example, if you make the switch you may need to pay again to download on Android the premium apps and games you bought long ago on iPhone. And what about the Apple Watch?
