New 5.8m boat to enter Mini Globe Race
Two years ago Northumberland sailor Adam Waugh took the plunge – he entered the 2025 Mini Globe Race and started building a ClassGlobe 580 yacht, the smallest class of boat ever to race around the world.
The 5.8m (19ft) sailing yacht is a new design by Polish sailor Janusz Maderski with a 2.2m beam and a 1.4m draught. Only a handful have been launched.
Adam works as a professional skipper and RYA cruising instructor. ‘I came to sailing quite late in life but relish the chance to cross oceans,’ he said. ‘The build has taken longer than I thought and cost more. I can’t wait to in the water at my home port of Amble.’
