Hands-on: social media guidelines 24 tips to become a social media professional

Part 1: Preparation and planning

1 | Who are you?

You can produce and post content like a champ - if you‘re not clear about what makes you who you are, it could all be for naught. So sit down with a note-taking app (or the old-fashioned way with a pen and paper) and write down what you want to do. Whether that‘s producing beats, providing mixing, designing and selling sounds, or being the next Rap superstar (or a combination thereof) - that becomes your mission. Because that way you can think about it much better…

2 | What do you want?

… what are your goals, firstly in terms of your content orientation? By when do you want to achieve this? Who would you like to work with? What will this all look like financially? And then you make a second list of goals for your social media channels. How many followers until when? How many sales or customers from posts? How many views of your videos? This means you have something tangible right from the start that you can use to measure the success of your social media work.

3 | Your role models

Do your research early – you probably already follow a few profiles that are successful in your desired field. If not: This research can be very worthwhile! Take a close look at profiles of producers or sound designers: What do they post? How often? Which social media are they most active on? How do they interact with followers? Get some inspiration!
