I once met an Historical Military Vehicle collector who boasted that he had one of every model of U.S. military jeeps, from a Willys MA to an M38A1, including a rare GPA and an extremely rare MT-TUG. Innocently, I asked if he also had an M606 to complete his collection? After which he looked bewildered.

Although the M606 is relatively rare in the U.S. HMV hobby, it is common in other parts of the world, especially if one includes Mitsubishi and Mahindra jeeps in the mix. The M606 and its variants are “real jeeps” in the sense that they were designed by Willys, and the Mitsubishi and Mahindra jeeps were built under Willys license. They are also “real jeeps” — unlike the Ford-designed MI51 MUTT —__ in the sense that many parts will interchange with other models of Willys jeeps.
