Curated by Museum MACAN director Aaron Seeto, (2023), Pakistani artist Khadim Ali depicts migrating animals escaping an Australian wildfire. Comprised of a 50-square-meter fabric of four, hand-embroidered panels it reimagines the scenery of Uluru, a sandstone monolith sacred to the Pitjantjatjara people. Meanwhile, in (2023), a video installation made up of 12 looped videos, Malaysian artist Nadiah Bamadhaj captures the traditional squatting gesture civil servants are made to perform in front of the nation’s sultans.
