In the 12th edition of the Seoul Mediacity Biennale (SMB12), “THIS TOO, IS A MAP,” artistic director Rachael (2023), a maximalist work of speculative fiction imagining a society based on the Minahasan culture of Indonesia’s Sulawasi province. In SeMA’s galleries, New York-based Jaye Rhee debuted the choir performance based on a 1955 song by Oh Seung Jeon romanticizing the southwestern United States, (2023), revealing a hidden history of postwar influence on Korea’s popular culture.
