In conversation with VANESSA CHAN

In an attempt to understand what her grandparents went through in World War Two, Malaysian author Vanessa Chan put pen to paper to give a voice to their stories. The result is The Storm We Made – a powerful historical debut about a Malayan mother who becomes an unlikely spy for the invading Japanese during the war – and the ripple effect it has on her children and community.

Vanessa lives in New York.
