It’s our seventh annual instalment of our popular ‘Cars to buy’ special issue, and this year arguably makes for the most interesting read yet. A lot has happened in the 12 months since our last in-depth buyers guide – some of which was predicted, some not. For a well-rounded and considered take on the marketplace, we’ve enlisted the help of an array of independent specialists – more so than ever before – who live, breathe and work in Porsche sales, putting their money where their mouth is on a daily basis. They’re the best people to advise on what to buy over the next 12 months, if you’re in the market to do so.
This year, our contributing specialists are Henry Thomas from Lakeside Classics, Ray Northway from Northway Porsche, Greig Daly from RPM Technik, the team at Paragon Porsche and Phil Raby from Phillip Raby Specialist Cars. A big thanks to all of them: their insight and expertise always makes researching and writing this piece both enjoyable and informative.
What’s happening in the marketplace currently, though? That’s a good question. There’s certainly been adjustments, but as some recent big auction results underline, there are still buyers out there looking out for rare, collectable and special cars. We’re hearing mutterings of overstock of new Porsche (not just 911s), but the glut of models such as the 992 Turbo/Turbo S coming up for sale, as well as other cars such as GT3s, suggest that the market’s been greedy, and some necessary adjustments are happening as a result.
Usefully, the majority of the cars we mention here aren’t included in that assessment, with this year’s look simplified to include three price points of up to £50,000, £50,001-£100,000, and £100,001+. That last category gives us a bit of leeway and, really, we’ve taken it in at least one instance.
Altogether, we reckon there are some solid buys listed, although
