Fast fashion - and the damage it causes - can feel ubiquitous. From cheap clothing on Shein and underpaid garment factory workers, to mountains of discarded clothing piled up in Chile’s Atacama Desert, the cycle of cheap clothing feels impossible to escape.

However, there’s an increasing number of British brands bucking the trend and embracing a new, slower way of dressing. Bouyed by Instagram, these small brands are changing the fashion eco-system, one made to order piece at a time.

SMALL BRAND CHAMPIONS

One of the champions of slow fashion is Isabel Spearman, founder of Daily Dress Edit (). Her Instagram account, with more than 59,000 followers, is dedicated to promoting small brands with daily posts of inspiring, wearable dresses. She also maintains a directory of slow fashion brands on her website and hosts a bi-annual Daily Dress Edit pop-up showcasing designers ().
