BEHIND THE QUILT
BLOCKS OF HOUSES
“For this quilt I have put together a series of classic-style blocks into a medallion quilt layout and combined that with red and cream fabrics to make a traditional-style red-and-white quilt. The centre medallion is foundation paper pieced and put together with curved piecing, both of which make this a relatively advanced quilt.
“This pattern includes instructions for cutting the pieces for foundation paper piecing. Beginners may wish to cut the pieces slightly larger to give a greater margin for error. Experienced paper piecers may find they can get away with slightly smaller pieces. As always, making a test block will help to ascertain this. When cutting the fabrics for the house blocks you may prefer to keep each house containing just one print as I did, or you may decide to go completely scrappy throughout the whole quilt as I did with the centre medallion and the Windmill blocks.” – Lynne Goldsworthy
