While browsing through a few seed catalogues recently, I was struck by the fact so many mention ‘heritage varieties’ or that they have a special ‘heritage collection’. But what does this really mean?
I struggle with this term, as its definition can be a bit woolly, and it’s also freely interchanged with other similar words such as ‘heirloom’ or ‘historic’. So are they just a novelty or is there something special about the history and culture wrapped up in these seed
