Call for a crime-free future

chatsworth, phoenix

RESIDENTS of Chatsworth and Phoenix say they will be going to the polls next year to vote for a “better, crime-free South Africa”.

They are concerned about the high crime rate and the number of police officers linked to crimes in the country.

Last week, Police Minister Bheki Cele revealed that thousands of officers, who were arrested for serious crimes such as murder, rape and kidnapping, were still employed by the SAPS.

This was revealed in a written reply by Cele to a parliamentary question by the DA. Cele said there were 5 489 officers arrested since 2019 and 3 981 were currently employed by the SAPS despite their arrests.

Kyle Naidoo, of Woodhurst, in Chatsworth, said corruption within the police force had gone beyond control.
