Don’t miss the chance to catch Georgian Illuminations, running until 7 January at Sir John Soane’s Museum, London. This exhibition of works on paper focuses on the spectacular illuminations which were popular in the Georgian period for private and public entertainment, and national celebrations. These ephemeral light displays, created using glass lamps, impressive and elaborate temporary architectural structures – often designed by leading architects and artists, including Soane – fireworks, and transparencies, were an important form of popular entertainment.
