Katia Carletti and Rohan Fraser describe their suburban Adelaide rental as a “rambling mess”. They can’t shut their side gate because the cedar tree’s grown wild under the house, skewing the pavers. And their bath is a no-go zone – Rohan used it just once and flooded the dining room. “That’s because the fig tree is clogging the pipes,” Katia says. Still, over the past four years, the couple has managed to spend almost nothing on a series of small changes that have transformed the place into a comfortable home and shared art studio, packed with Rohan’s paintings, Katia’s handmade pottery and a mix of thrifted and found furniture.
Katia and Rohan met in 2009 at Adelaide Central School of Art and later lived together
