Winters in Niagara Falls, N.Y., where I grew up, can last anywhere from four to six months and can be especially harsh and grueling with snowdrifts getting up to 17 feet or more at times.
We lived on 54th Street, a short street with only six houses. One end of the street led to a giant field in one direction and all the way from Buffalo Avenue (a main thoroughfare of the city) to the next cross street in the other direction.
