Snow Houses and Winter Picnics

Winter and subzero temperatures were no reason to stop having picnics when I was growing up in Iron River, Mich., in the 1940s and ’50s. When it was cold outside, we kids still enjoyed hot chocolate, cookies and peanut butter sandwiches within the shelter of snow caves and snow houses.
