When I was growing up on our family farm in North Dakota in the 1930s and ’40s, every Saturday afternoon came with special routines that were done in preparation for Sunday and for the following week.
Everyone had additional tasks to perform on Saturday because Sunday was the Lord’s Day and no unnecessary work was done on that day. Whatever could be done ahead was done ahead. One didn’t clean house, bake bread or do laundry
