’64 PORSCHE 356C

There comes a life-changing moment for many collectors when they have to rationalise their stash, and Howard Atkins, is facing such a cutback. He currently owns four of the marque – a 1959 356B, this Sky Blue ’64 C, a backdated 1983 911 Targa and a 1979 911 SC coupé – and only wants to keep two. Perhaps unbelievably to those who aspire to owning just one classic Porsche, he isn’t particularly bothered which.

“I really don’t mind which ones I keep,” he says. “The grey 356, which is the 1959 car, was the very first one we brought back to life. It came over as a wreck from California, hand painted yellow by some hippies, and it’s gone back to factory Slate Grey. We actually use that one for rallying, and my wife loves it the most because it’s been around the longest. But if somebody came along and wanted it, I’d happily keep the blue one that Paul’s got for sale
