Tory chief warns right-wing MPs it would be 'insanity' to try to topple Rishi Sunak over Rwanda plan
A fresh leadership contest to change prime minister would be “insanity”, the Conservative Party chairman warned Tory MPs on Thursday as Rishi Sunak faced down the threat of a rebellion.
The Prime Minister is under fire from within his party, with MPs concerned about the effectiveness of his emergency Rwanda legislation in stopping legal challenges to sending asylum seekers to Rwanda.
His immigration minister Robert Jenrick quit rather than backing a plan which he believed was destined for failure.
Mr Sunak defended his flagship Rwanda immigration plan on Thursday as it came under fresh attack from the Tory Right led by Suella Braverman.
He told them if he caved into their demands the whole deal with the East African country would “collapse”.
