Ticket office closure plans scrapped

TICKET office closure plans were scrapped at the end of October, afterTransport Secretary Mark Harper said they failed to meet high passenger standards.

Train operating companies controlled either directly or under contract by the Department for Transport published proposals in July to close almost1000 ticket offices across the country in a cost saving measure.

A very short period of consultation with passengers and others began on July 5 and was originally due to end just three weeks later on July 26, subsequently extended to September 1 as there was also a lack of information about alternative ticketing arrangements.
