ZEBRA FINCHES

Can you tell me a bit about your birdkeeping history?

In my early teenage years, my dad and I built a large aviary and a small tin shed where I kept budgies, cockatiels, finches and quail. I also kept various breeds of poultry free-ranged and most were hatched by myself with an incubator. I reared them under heat lamps. This was only possible because I had a part-time job and a summer job collecting and cleaning eggs in poultry houses – work that was close to where I lived. In my later teenage years, I raced pigeons until I had to give them up for medical reasons. Many years later, I have started back in birds: zebra finches. I bought my first birds in 2020 and entered my first official show in 2022.
