ONE SMALL STEP FOR GRADE 0 and A GIANT LEAP TO GRADE 1

Since your child’s birth, you’ve been building the essential foundational skills for her school readiness, and now this significant milestone is just a few months away. You don’t need to cram six years of work into the next two months, but doing a bit of “finishing work” can help build confidence and ensure a smooth transition to big school. This doesn’t mean you should intensely drill your child - that could put her off school permanently. Instead, you can playfully reinforce the existing skills that her Grade 0 teacher has been working on all year.

■ Ensure your child can count effortlessly and understand numbers up to at least 10 (preferably beyond) and can count backwards from 10.
