Most people in Christchurch of a certain age will have at least heard of Aranui Speedway, which began just four years after the end of World War 2. (Speedway had happened in Christchurch long before Aranui; Monica Park Speedway had closed in 1938, with wartime looming. Other short-term tracks popped up in Tai Tapu, Bexley and Wainoni).
