There are many causes of swollen ankles, from simply being in a hot environment or being overweight to more serious conditions such as deep-vein thrombosis, heart failure, kidney or liver failure, thyroid disease, inflammation of joints or soft tissues, lymphatic blockage and local infections, such as cellulitis.
