Placing a paper bag on the fireplace, my son Callum, then 3, looked up at me.

‘Will he really come tonight?’ he asked.

‘Santa would never let you down,’ I nodded.

It was the summer of 2018 but Christmas was already on our minds.

Recently, I'd persuaded Callum to give up his beloved dummies.

Suggested putting a bag of them out ‘for Santa’ so he'd be on his Nice List when Christmas Eve came around.

Next morning, Callum rushed downstairs.

Found the dummies gone, replaced by a letter and parcel from Santa.

Well done, Callum, you're my special helper now.
