Tumbling river

As a painter of mostly landscapes I do have fairly regular changes of enthusiasm for certain inspirational landscape subjects. Some linger with me for a short time, others for a very long time and rivers and streams are subjects that definitely fall into the latter category. I enjoy painting subjects that have a water element in them as I find the light of the sky reflected in the bottom half of the painting enhances the work and adds visual movement to the whole.

The play of light on the flowing surface of the water, reflections of the surrounding environment, the sparkle ofeye and encourage me to capture it in paint. It can be even better if the edge of the water course has a few tumbled rocks or a massed group of them across the river forming a set of river rapids that add to the visual drama of flowing water.
