When I first got a scooter I was lucky in that my dad was an engineer and a welder, being very ‘old school’ in his ways. I remember the catchphrases: “Use the right tool for the job” and “Let the tool do the job.” He would look at me with disgust if I were to have the audacity (or stupidity) to pick up an adjustable spanner.
If I was looking puzzled or concerned when working on an engine, he would trot out another catchphrase:
