It has become as much a part of the festive season as trees, turkey and family arguments. Led by John Lewis, companies started producing landmark Christmas advertisements, to be released every November. As much a mini-motion picture as anything else, they spin out into hit songs, provoke discussion on social media, and, in theory at least, get everyone in the mood to spend lots of money over the holiday season.
