What was life like in the USSR during your upbringing at the height of communism?

It was a good life and we had a traditional system – I think everyone was happy. I had friends from all over the Soviet Union; from Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan. Since the fall of the Soviet Union, everything’s become really politicised. Look at what’s happening between Ukraine and Russia – it’s so terrible.
