Australian Science Illustrated and AI
We are great fans of AI at Science Illustrated, and early users of AI art engines in particular: we ran a spread of fake AI scientific images in SI#96 back in November 2022, warning that “AI could also be used to deceive, and creates one more layer of unreality in a world where it’s increasingly hard to determine facts from fakery”. We use Midjourney for some concept images, but inaccuracies still hold AI use back.
