From the notebook of a sportswriter who continues to find silver linings where others seem to find only black clouds:

• Start at quarterback. Kenny Pickett, in his first 20 starts, has a 12-8 record. Kind of meh, but after a 1-3 start his rookie year, he’s been 11-5. Included are six fourth-quarter comebacks, and seven game-winning drives.

• Yes, he certainly has the clutch gene, so important at the position. In the first three quarters of games this season, he’s compiled a passer rating of 75.6. In the fourth quarter, it’s 107.7.
