Now the Velocette I’ve had on loan has gone back to its owner and there is nothing else urgently needing attention in the workshop, I thought there’d be a bit of time to catch up on some of the minor bits and pieces which always take longer than you expect. Something which has been glaring at me for a long time and been ignored because it hasn’t prevented the bike working is the number of joins in the wiring loom. There has to be a certain amount of joins as the bits and pieces need to come on and off but some of the joins have been caused because certain bits were moved to a better location and despite thinking there was enough slack in the wire to cope with a move, it turns out there wasn’t, so, a bullet connector or two was used to add some length.
While bullet connectors do work they don’t look brilliant and there are better ways to join wires to make them longer. The method clever people can use is to solder the wires together. I’ve seen it done, not ever done it and those who do it well make
