Snowflakes for Switzerland

The charming wintry scenes on Swiss Post’s 2023 ‘Snow Crystals’ Christmas stamps were inspired by the contrast between the warm light inside people’s homes and frozen snow crystals formed on the outside of their windows.

‘I was watching how the snow crystals covered the fir trees, and I imagined deer, mice and rabbits running around, happily collecting snow crystals to decorate their own Christmas trees,’ says designer Aura Naomi Schoppig Ruiz. The concept had so much appeal that the design had the overall vote from Swiss Post staff throughout the country.

All five stamps in the set feature endearing illustrations balancing themes of cold and warmth, where the hexagonal snow crystals, which form in a star shape, are accompanied by traditional Christmas motifs and woodland animals.
