SEEING DOUBLE

’69 BAY WINDOW DOUBLE CAB

After witnessing first hand the stunning orange Double Cab built by Johnson Autoworks, Richard Turner became inspired to own a Type 2 Crew Cab.

Richard is certainly no stranger to VWs, having owned numerous examples since 1995. Starting with a Mk1 Golf Driver in Mars Red, he then went on to own numerous other Mk1s, along with examples of its Mk2 successor, and along the way developed a passion for air-cooled VWs, too.

Currently, Richard owns an impressive collection of VWs of all shapes and sizes, including a Type 25 Single Cab (known as a Sinka to those who call Double Cabs Dokas), a Beetle, a Corrado VR6, a T6.1 Transporter and ‘a few’ Mk1 and Mk2 Golfs. In fact, Richard’s addiction to the VW brand is so strong, it has developed into his livelihood too, as he explains:

“In the ’90s, I regularly took my cars to the Volkscentre [formerly Blyth Beetle Centre] run by Dave Leightley. Dave had run that business for over 40 years
