I’ve noticed a bit of a theme on some of the popular VW pages around the internet recently. It seems to be mainly driven by people relatively new to air-cooled VW life. I would describe it as a mixture of trepidation and excitement when taking their vehicle out on the road. Trepicitement perhaps?
I have seen many long posts triumphantly celebrating a 100-mile round trip without issues. But just pause for a moment. How old are these vehicles? Do you think they got to this year on planet earth by being fragile and unreliable? Hell no!
Almost all issues experienced on the road in old VWs are down to poor maintenance, or perhaps these days bad luck with sub-standard parts. A well-maintained, air-cooled Volkswagen with all its correct tinware, hoses and seals in place, given regular oil changes, and with the timing and valves set to factory tolerances, will rarely let you down.
