HORSE COLOUR on SIGHT

Although it may not be the most important thing in the performance horse industry, most of us do have a favourite horse colour. There are many people, especially breeders, who have a lot of knowledge about the genetics side of horse colours. However, it can be a very involved subject to learn and some people just don’t have the time to study it, often leaving it up to the Genetics Testing experts to do the work for them. Throw into the mix the people who just love a horse of a certain colour, or love to guess the colour that a mare’s foal is going to turn out, and it seems the conversation on horse colour is an ongoing and vibrant one.

Some colours can show signs of both fading and darkening in certain seasons, or fading, sometimes due to exposure to the sun. Many coat colours can show dapples, especially in horses with a genetic predisposition for them. Ensuring
