IT’S ONE OF THOSE ‘PINCH ME’ moments as we glide over snow-capped mountain peaks, our pilot helping us spot mountain goats. We are on our way to the Mendenhall Glacier, southeast of Juneau in the Tongass National Forest on a shore excursion from our floating home, Koningsdam. We land safely on ice that is approximately 550 metres thick, and follow our guides as they help us navigate our way through the glaciers, making sure to watch out for crevasses. We even stop for a drink of the fresh ice-cold water running through the glacier.
