K’GARI (aka Fraser Island) is right on our doorstep – the biggest sand island in the world and a unique World Heritage listed site. K’gari, traditional homeland of the Butchulla people, possesses such incredible diversity of landscape and plant life, including rare and endangered species, and it is so readily available for all to enjoy whether you are walking the 90km Great Walk or visiting the island on an organised eco tour.

Our group, the Tramping Sisters, decided to do the Coast to Coast Walk promoted by Fraser Island Hiking. We had been discussing the possibility of buying individual tents to take our hiking adventures more remote, and this tour provided us with the opportunity to test our aptitude to this style of trekking – testing not only the ability to carry all our gear, but also dehydrating meals; what we liked and didn’t like about the different tents; and surviving each other’s company under conditions of
