It keeps getting Gweta

“Is there fuel at Gweta?” That's the number one question other tourists ask about this tiny stopover between Nata and Maun. The answer is often no, but by some stroke of luck, the pumps were working when I visited in May 2023.

The filling station is right next to the A3 so you don't really see the town, which is just south of the road and hidden from view. If you turn in, you might be pleasantly surprised. With rangy makalani palm trees and a couple of cute shops, the town has some real character.

Most times I'm one of those people who jets past Gweta towards other overnight spots further away. But not this time. I've booked a campsite for two nights at the popular Planet Baobab just east of town. The A3 is still in a very poor condition, especially between Nata and Gweta: Flood damage from a few years back has not been fixed. It therefore makes sense to break your journey at Planet Baobab,
