In conversation with my dad this evening having read of your troublesblobs of solder attaching the filaments at the base inside one of the indicator bulbs had ‘shifted’ with time and were just about touching each other, thus shorting out the circuit. So if you haven't yet solved that problem, his recommendation is that you have a good look at each of the bulbs.
