Music legend and landmark diesel star in naming ceremony

HUNDREDS of steam, diesel and music fans descended on Mangapps Railway Museum in deepest Essex on October 1 for a locomotive naming ceremony that featured two stars – rock legend and former trainspotter RickWakeman and the locomotive itself, preserved Class 31 No. 31105.

Rick, a former member of the progressive rock band Yes, was at the working museum to unveil, which, as highlighted in News last issue, has been given to No. 31105 in recognition of the pioneering pirate radio station that first broadcast in 1964 and continues to do so perfectly legally from the ship moored off the Essex coast in the Blackwater Estuary, 20 miles from the museum.
